Albert Einstein stated, “Imagination is more important than knowledge, for knowledge is limited to all we know and understand while imagination embraces the entire world and all there will be to know and understand.”
Imagination definition: the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images or concepts of external objects not present to the senses.
“Previous research has shown that imagining an act can activate and strengthen regions of the brain involved in its real-life execution, improving performance. For instance, imagining playing piano can boost neuronal connections in regions related to the fingers.” Science Daily, Dec. 2018.
Everything that has been created by humans, first began in the imagination of someone’s mind. In solving any problem, the imagination must be activated by thinking about the problem. Defining the problem; what is the problem or difficulty? Let’s use weight loss, for instance. The problem is too much weight. What is the cause of this extra weight? Too little exercise and eating too much food. The solution is to move more and eat less. The imagination creates the action plan. How the strategy is applied is up to the person. Whether the person has enough trust and faith in themselves to follow the plan will show in the resulting weight loss. Or not.
Let’s go into this further. If part of the plan includes using someone else as an example to follow, success is more likely to be the result. Asking how a thinner person acts puts the imagination into high gear. By mimicking how you think a thinner person goes through their day sets your actions for the day. Seeing yourself in a thinner person’s life helps to keep you on track. It becomes your focus to eating less and being more active.
If you want to be a writer, ask what does a writer do? It’s simple, they write. However, much of what is written happens long before the words are ever put to paper. Using their imagination, the story is created in their mind. The story line is thought up, the characters are established, and the setting all happen in the writer’s inner vision. When there is enough material created through the imagination, the writer can then put the story into words.
Solutions begin in the imagination, the creative thinking process. Asking questions leads to solutions or actions to take. Plan for what you want for yourself. Take action and apply your plan with trust and faith that you can achieve the desired result. And lastly, don’t procrastinate! Do it now!
